I loved it! Great movie. I kinda had it figured out from the beginning though.
The black man and his wife who were killed by the rich plantation owner transferred their souls into the bodies of the plantation owner's children ... so he was basically killing his own kids. Then, through the years, they stayed living in that house and kept their souls alive by luring younger people to their home over time and switching bodies with them - so the younger people were in the older, dying bodies, and the Voodoo Priest and his wife were in the young healthy bodies. In the movie, the attorney is the priest who has already switched bodies with a younger man -- who is trapped inside the body of the old, dying husband who can't speak. They lured the young woman to the home under the guise of needing a nurse for the old man, when in reality, they wanted to use her body as a receptacle for the old woman's soul.
Very good....very convoluted. Loved it!

in the end it is found out the peter skarrsgard's character and the old woman were the evil spirits of the black people that were lynched in the flashback. Ben was in fact the soul and spirit of peter skarrsgard. It turns out that the old woman ends up putting a spell on caroline and the old woman's evil spirit is transferred into caroline and both souls of caroline and peters' character and transferred into the old peoples and the last shot is them going to the hospital unable to speak

At the end of the movie the nurse and the lawyer became the reincarnation of the voo doo man and his wife who were murdered / lynched back in the 1920's.

The voodoo family used the kids body to transfer the souls and then used the magic to transfer the woman in the care taker... Good ending...

It was so confusing... so the old woman runs and attacks Kate Hudson, and the spirit of the two slaves that were hung (the black woman) enters into her body, so now her spirit lives on. While, Kate's spirit is in the old woman's body, who dies. The black man continues to live on in the body of the 'lawyer'. This process continues so that they can live forever.

Kate Hudson's body was possessed by the same ghost that was in the previous body . And the bad guy one pretty much.

yeah i didnt like it much, but it had a twisted ending at the end the old woman takes the body of kate hudson and kate's soul would go to the old womans body its like a soul swap

The young woman and the preacher guy were actualy the old black couple and was trying to get back into a black couples body.
