Basically, it is wet because of a combination of geography and topography. Scotland is surrounded by water, except for the bit at the bottom that is attached to England. But the prevailing winds come in over the ocean, pick up a load of moisture and then hit the mountains. That's where they drop their moisture and we call it rain. It rains more in Scotland than it does in England because there are more mountains in Scotland than there are in England.
The plus side is that Scottish women have beautiful complexions because of the weather. They aren't tanned to a leathery hardness like some people in sunnier parts of the world, and don't have to bother with applying moisturizer. Mother Nature does it for them!

It's so wet because it's on the end of an island that's surrounded by a large body of salt water. Marine climates tend to be more moist than inland climates because the air contains moisture from the sea. Thus more clouds and rain.

Scotland is mountainous. When moist air from the Atlantic passes from west to east towards scotland, the air is forced to raise up over the mountains. When the air climbs up over the mountains it gets cold, this causes water vapour in the air to form into clouds and then evenutally rain.

Scotland is situated in the northern hemisphere, the gulf stream runs up and down the west coast, it has the atlantic ocean on its shores, the temperature is around 0 to 25. Mountains to boot.

I think its because of the tropics and its location in relation to them. At the Equator, obviously the hottest band around earth, water evaporates and because of the lower pressure north and south of the equator, it splits and moves those ways collecting more water as it goes. Eventually it gets too heavy and rains, around the tropics (hence why lush forests are around the tropics) Still hot, evaporates, less pressure further north (for hte water in the northern hemisphere) so it makes its way north and rains, apparently mostly over the uk area.

dude, i actually learned this at school. there is a tropical current in the ocean that passes near western europe, which is why though scotland etc are nearly parrellel to the east coast in the US, they dont get as cold. thus rain instead of snow.

because its furthest away from the gulf stream which warms the rest of the country. the cold air converts the evaporated water into rain and hey presto, one miserable wet day
