Yes, you are right, mediocrity seems to triumph but as long as intelligent people still exist somewhere on this planet, we still have a chance for the civilization to keep on living.

Why does mediocrity rule? Because people allows this to happen, if nobody encourages culture and the examples that we see everywhere are negative how can we hope for a brighter future?

Look around you...do you see intelligent people geting attention? I don't think so, all the kids are practically fascinated by low culture personalities they consider ''cool''. Being a civilized person isn't cool, cool is doing all kind of stupid things, to hang around with popular people, to wear designer cloths and be the center of attention; everything out of the ordinary (crazy, stupid however you call it) means being the best.

Let's be honest, what do you see on tv most of the times? Do you see culture? No, you see mediocre people braging about all the little things they do everyday but most of the human beings absolutely worship that kind of behavior, they become models that kids adopt. Look here on Yahoo Answers, most of the questions and anwers are really pointless, silly not to say stupid; you can find intelligent people too but mediocrity gets ahead.

For somebody to be more than a mediocre person, it takes lot of study and a positive culture influence, it takes hard work to reach a certain level of knowledge and many people don't have time for this kind of activity, they rather go out with their cool friends.

I don't know how can we stop this wave of mediocrity when even the president of USA seems to be one of them. I don't want to criticize anyone but when money are the only value that we care about, the end of civilized activity is near.

You seem to have asked two questions, so I'll try on both counts.

First: By definition, any activity that is carried out by an organized group of people is civilized. So, until all social contact between people has ended, civilized activity will continue.

Second: Mediocrity is going with the flow. Its taking the path of least resistance. In a word, its easy. Most people aren't comfortable with the inconveniences of being on the bottom, and working to be on top is a lot harder than it sounds. That's why mediocrity triumphs.
