There are many things to do in Fish Hoek. Most people go to Fish Hoek to become one with nature, doing activites like Scuba Diving, Cycling, Mountain Biking, Sailing, Kayaking, Surfing, Deep Sea Fishing, Boat Charters, Wine Routes, Fynbos Walks and Mountain Climbing, Whale watching, snorkelling in fish hoek rock pools aswell as many more activities.
There are 2 brand new gyms, one in Town Square and one in Sun Valley Mall, and a number of private health spas including Delphinas in Glencairn Heights. A wide range of treatments, facilities and products are available. Traditional healers and herbalists within the town limits offer a particularly African approach to health care, which has been trusted by the local communities for generations. Perhaps a little colourful by European standards! Local growers and manufactures produce a wide range of organic and herbal products for health care and beauty treatments, but perhaps most beneficial is the sense of peace and well being that emanates from close contact with nature in these beautiful surroundings. The valley is an ideal place to pamper all of your senses and spoil yourself more than a little.
Weavers, AP Jones and Marcias, to mention a few in Main Road, have a wide selection of souvenirs and collectibles. The Fish Hoek Art Society display their work in the Arcade and more fine art and locally produced items are for sale at the Information Office. The library is also host to many local exhibitions and is rightfully proud of its beautiful herb garden. The traders market opposite the station is sure to offer a bargain.
Fish Hoek its-self has fine examples of Art deco architecture and Glencairn is home to some beautiful Victorian buildings. (The Glencairn Hotel is reputedly host to two ghosts and was the home of the famous Just Nuisance.) The Two Oceans Craft and Culture Centre, at the entrance to Masiphumelele township, offers a wide range of township related activities including guided tours, local products, local cuisine and musical extravaganzas with local choirs and traditional costumes. Money generated from these activities is put back into the development of this community.

Look, it's not like we can't walk outside or sleep at night because we'll get raped - it's really not THAT bad. A lot of the crime happens in the poorer areas where drug use is higher. It does happen everywhere, except that some people are more vigilant and don't go walking around the city alone in the middle of the night. It is certainly not only against tourists and white people. Most of the crimes are opportunistic because tourists think that they can walk around in a township on their own with 3 cameras around their neck and get away with it. The odd tourist does get murdered, but that's not exclusive to South Africa. IN FACT may I make a point here and state that the last tourist to be murdered here (the last one to attract international media attention anyway) was an Indian-born woman who was murdered by her new husband. They were on their honeymoon and were supposed to go back to Britain. Certainly, the crime has increased since the abolition of the death sentence. One can also attribute a higher crime rate since the new government came in because the judicial system has changed, though not necessarily for the worst - it's just got a lot slower. Aside from the fact that people will get 3 years for a rape as opposed to the previous sentence of life in prison, for example. I have South African friends who have never even been mugged here. They move to Britain and * bang * - their suitcase or laptop is stolen. So, it is definitely not exclusive to South Africa or unusual. Also, I find it hard to believe that we do have the highest crime rates in the world when a lot of the drug capitals of the world have higher rates of more serious crimes. We're just open and honest about our statistics.

As far as i can see Fish Hoek does not have much to offer to tourists. I don't remember any mountain hiking and there certainly are no wine routes. The beach is all right as are the rock pools mentioned above, but remember, the water is cold, it is quite windy and they have occasional shark attacks. There are a few little shops and cafes that might be worth a visit if you're in the area anyway, but nothing I would go there for. The one thing Fish Hoek is known for is churches and religious inhabitants. If you are looking for fun things to do as a tourist, I recommend:
- Kalk Bay (lovely little shops, particularly clothing and antiques, and cafes, great Cuban restaurant called Cape to Cuba)
- Simon's Town (a bit like Kalk Bay, but less shops and a big naval base instead. There is a great little cafe with a balcony on the first floor where you have great views over False Bay.)
- The ostrich farm north of the Cape of Good Hope
- The penguins in Boulder Beach
- Kite surfing in Muizenberg (surf only if you're very skilled, watch if you're not, it's still fun)

There's some awesome caves around Fishhoek and Kalk bay mountains but make sure you go with someone who knows what they're doing. The beaches are cool. Noordhoek is right next to Fishhoek, go check out the beach there. The brass bell in Kalkbay is right on the water and great after a day on the beach. Other restaurants are Red Herring and Thawfins in Noordhoek also great for a meal or a drink.

Fish Hoek in South Africa has lots of celebrities. They're everywhere. They shop at all the places you shop and eat at all the restaurants you eat.
But then again...why would you wanna go to a dead beat place like Fish Hoek to see celebrities? As I recall they are all over South Africa, aren't they? Mr. Smartypants.
