If I were to shoot a Jewish person and take his wallet I would be considered a violent criminal, but wouldn't make the national news. However if I killed a Jewish person and had a shaved head and swastika tatoos I would be considered a horrible monster biggot and probably have a high profile court tv trial. But the poor Jewish guy would be just as dead in either case.

I would like to clarify that my hypothetical motive for the robbery is only for money (fat wallet or nice clothes) and not because of a stereotype that the Jewish are rich. I am wondering about the legal or logical rational behind "hate crime" legislation. I used Jewish people because I though it would be less offensive than other groups and more realistic that say "green people."

It's not. For me, personally any type of killing is wrong. Doesn't matter what your "reasoning" is, it's wrong.

I think some of the answer comes from some twisted kind of reverse prejudice. Everyone can understand a desire to break the rules for more money even though (i would hope) the majority of us don't and the vast majority would never resort to murder. But killing someone because of creed or race? This is something that isn't nearly as common and it is mutch easier to point the finger at that "monster" who acts so differently than us.

Also I think kinda along the same lines as above. Because it is so hard for many ppl to understand such a crime that it is much easier to fear something like this.

Biggest reason though, cuz everything is turned on its head. Save the whales kill the babies for instance.
Or ethical treatment of animals in slaughter houses but screw the starving 3rd world.
Or tolerance for everyone unless of course you want to fight for what you believe in.

You are 100% correct. "Hate crimes" were created to make white people that much more guilty for the crimes they commit. Seriously. Look at the stats. How many "black" hate crimes are committed each year? Not a whole hell of a lot. Hate crime is just another way to make a crime a federal offense.

Willyou: You have some serious issues. A robber only robs to survive? Ever hear of a JOB? A rapist only rapes for sex? Are you on crack? What about power, sex, sadism, and monstrosity? A murderer only kills because of his mom? Oh, so you want all rapists and murderers to live next door to you since they certainly wouldn't commit these heinous acts on you? My goodness, where do people get such perverted views on criminals? Criminals commit crime for one reason -- THEY ARE SICK AND TWISTED INDIVIDUALS. I sure as hell don't want them on the streets near me and mine.

AND I SURE AS HELL DON'T CARE ABOUT THE "MOTIVE" OF THE CRIME. CRIME IS CRIME AND DESERVES PUNISHMENT.

When you kill the jewish man for his money the question is whether you chose him because he was jewish or not. If you chose to rob him because he was jewish (as opposed to had a fat wallet in plain view), it makes for an aggravating circumstance, like robbing a store with a loaded gun, as opposed to no gun. That would be what would earn you both notoriety as well as greater prison time.

That is exactly the answer hating someone because of who they are is disgusting the person has no type of compassion no feeling of remorse it was just one less to kill. But a person that kills someone for robbery he was only acting for survival. A person killing for rape he does it for sex. A person killing women he does it because he hate his mother. In all these cases you can call the killer a person. But someone that is racist and kills he is straight up an animal and should be put to sleep.

I don't condone killing anyone for any of the above reasons...but with a crime which is done for money at least the criminal has some kind of "reward" for the deed...what does he get from a hate crime?.....also ...to a certain extent people can protect themselves a little more from non-hate crimes than from hate crimes...especially if they are not from a visible minority. ie don't carry money or be in unsafe areas..whereas hate crimes tend to seem to occur anywhere with no other reasons.
