The 'best' is always going to be a matter of opinion. I myself hate ipods. I own a Sony NW-A3000 20gig mp3 player. It's very stylish looking, very simple to use and has a claimed battery life of 35 hrs (yet to test this) The software it comes with isn't as fluid as i tunes but has improved every time sony update it and I have no problems with it now. Shop around, all depends on what you want to spend as there are great machines out there which are not apple.....

If you have a Cell phone, I suggest you get a cellphone with the mp3 Capability in it. I perfer the Samsung MPX220 in Cingular. It has many options and an expandable memory slot for mp3 and such. You also get a camera and a pocket PC with it. It goes for about $200 US.

buy a pocket pc or smart phone running Windows Mobile 2003 or 5.0. Pretty much every wireless provider has a couple of models. Do not be fooled by the iPOD bandwaggon...Trust me, in the next few months, millions of people will see their ipods for just what they are...an over priced device that ends up in the junk electronics drawer way before its time.

I have a zen micro and its great. it comes in a bunch of different colors and has a built in FM radio. it also holds files that you would put on a floppy disc. they dont break easily and their much cheaper than other brands.

SanDisk is good. It can take some rough treatment and is reasonably priced.
