It depends on what you want out of the music. Opera is as diverse as all the other generas put together.
If you want a sad love song I'd suggest either Lenski's Aria from Tchaikovski's Eugene Onegin or "E Lucevan Le Stelle" from Puccini's Tosca.
If you want something epic go for the "Smithing Song" from Wagner's Siegfried or the Anvil Chorus from Verdi's Il Trovatori.
If you want a more hopefull love song try "Un Bel Di" from Pucinni's Madame Butterfly
If you want something more flippant go for "Musetta's Waltz" from Pucinni's La Boheme or the drinking song from Verdi's La Traviata.

Just listen to a bunch of operas and you'll find out what you like and what you don't
(PS. Don't take my spelling for granted, I suck at Italian and I'm going entirely off of memory)

bizet - "habanera"from carmen
rossini - 'the thieving magpie", while no one is singing, it is still concidered an opera piece, and in my opinion, a very good one.
Check out "boheimian opera.com". A great source for music in movies.
