If you didn't catch it, then you didn't catch it, and that's that. As for going back, that's a question you should probably answer on your own, but for me, if it was a cheap round of wine in a nice restaurant, and if it was already a while after I'd left, I don't think I would have gone back. I can't say if that would have been right or wrong. But in any case, if you did choose to go back, then you would be right to do so; no one would really accuse you of being somehow "too honest."

It was not wrong that you didn't catch it earlier, and the fact that you are asking if you should have gone back seems to point that you thought you likely should have. However, ethics is largely a matter of intent. It's not like you did a Dine and Dash. It was just a simple mistake both on the bartender's part and yours for not noticing. But you intended to pay for it, (and indeed, thought you had),so ethically speaking you are clear.

By asking this question you already know what the answer is, It is worrying you and our peace of mind is worth more than a couple of drinks or any amount of money. Call the restaurant, tell them what happened and they will either say forget about it or they will tell you the amount and you will go in and pay; either way it will make you feel better. Cheer's!

As long as the restaurant doesn't make a habit of giving out a free round, I don't think they're really going to miss it. Although it is conscientious of you, don't lose any sleep over it.

You caught it earlier. You just liked getting away with something. Yeah, you should have gone back and paid, it will probably come out of his pay. Very bad form. You could still go back.

IF the bartender didn't ring it up then he's not out any money, but IF the bartender rang it up then he had to pay for your drink.
True it was their mistake, but it would have been nice for you to go back and pay the bartender.
If you gave someone the wrong change back, would you want them to keep your money or give it back?

No, you should have gone back and corrected their mistake. That's the waiters livelyhood and he/she should have caught that mistake. Morally, what you did was fine. Ethically, though was somewhat okay. Things like this happen all the time.

No. If the restaurant is not charging you for a drink, it might have been on the house. And if they made a mistake, it is their problem and not yours. Management is often bad in restaurants, and staff often untrained. That is not the customer's problem.

going back may have made a virtuous show of things, but they would not have allowed you to pay for the second round of drinks.
