I think it should be obvious to every citizen who votes regularly that the vast majority of congress, and also the executive branch never represent the voters who elect them (except during election campaigns) are beholden to the special interests that finance their elections and other perquisites. The reason I say it should be obvious, is the the millions of dollars a candidate spends to win elections to an office that pays anywhere from about $160,000 to $400,000 annually just doesn't wash. I don't think it is to serve the country. But, I have a solution, unlike our representatives who can only state what problems exist, and appoint committees to study them.
Any elected representative (including the President) who accepts money or gifts, and any person proffering such graft, should subject to confinement in prison for a long period of time. Elections should be financed by the taxpayers. Equal free TV time should be furnished by all TV stations without cost to every bonafide candidate. After all, the air waves belong to the public and the FCC should see to it. One more thing. Every elected official should serve no more than six years in any position and then he is through with politics, PERIOD! He goes back to his regular job, lives the laws he passed and becomes a working citizen. No special health care programs, ABSOLUTELY no retirement pension. The might consider joining a lobbying firm, but they would also be outlawed in my version of Utopian Republic.

The Congress only cares about Special Interest Groups that put large amount of money in thier coffers. THAT is who rules Congress, and Congress are above any law that "they make", so they are exempt from the "ordinary people" that they have to get elected by.

Once they are in Congress, they forget about us, because we no longer "matter", and they are doing what they "think" is right, for the "whole" of the people, (whether we want it or not, we dont get a vote, until we can vote them out of office, other than that, THEY represent us and they can vote as they see fit).

Most vote for thier "big money people" and that is the ones that wash thier hands and pat thier backs.

I wish you well..

Yahoo ran a survey about making marriage only between a man and a woman the law of the land and found that more people didn't like that idea than did. Congress voted it into continueing discussion rather than law, two days later. I believe we have a government that desperately wants to serve the interests of all the american people.

Their time seems to be spent more and more on things that don't represent us, so the less time they spend working the better off we are. Congress should just work one week per month.

They take bribes and rarely pass any real legislation, and when they do make law it is something like the Patriot Act, which none of them understand.

So, what do you think?
