In Asia, goji has enjoyed a long and well-deserved reputation as an energizing supertonic. Known as the "happy berry", goji has a legendary ability to promote cheerfulness and brighten the spirit. In fact, it has been noted that the only known side effect of goji is that continued consumption may make it impossible for you to stop smiling!
Goji offers a host of unique benefits that should be of great interest to anyone fighting depression. As an adaptogen, it helps the body to adapt to and cope with stress and provides the energy reserves to help you handle just about any difficulty. Goji also fights fatigue and boosts stamina, while improving sleep quality. In several medical study groups with elderly people, nearly all patients taking goji reported better quality of sleep.

There are many things that can help to treat depression. The key is to always do these other remedies under you doctors advice. Depression is a touchy thing. Please don't try to self medicate. In some situations a perminate change in Diet can end depression (if it is purely chemical) But, in most people Depression is a reaction to situations in ones life that a person has trouble dealing with. Medications in the later case will only stop the symptoms they will not Stop the problem. In most cases people end up on medication (natural or perscription) for the rest of their lives when they could go through therapy and work through the problem and be done with it for ever. Therapy takes alot of hard work... and insurance company's just want to give drugs and move on.. but please know depression can be cured... If you are willing to put in the effort to find the problem and fix it. Drugs are just a bandaid.
that being said here is a few good sites for alternative anti depressants... May God bless you always...

There are not just chemicals in our food , but in food's storage containers (which leach into the item stored) -- 'spring water' (as just 1 example) can therefore become a major contributor to depression!

Tryptophan.
A bad batch of tryptophan produced overseas years ago caused a ban of its use until 2001. It is now produced in the US under rigid controls, but its reputation still suffers.
