Auditors from the UK are here - and it's LAW in England that a check must be under 6 months to get cashed. They want to know what the time limit is in the US (we are located in Illinois)

If it doesn't have a time limited printed on the front (like some do say void after 60 days), it can be cashed at any point. The only problem you run into is people who have closed their bank accounts.
After 6 months, the bank can refuse to cash it. At that point they can legally label it "stale." At that point you can go back to the source and get a new check reissued.

Personal checks can be cashed up to 90 days. After that they are void. I'm not sure about Bank checks or paychecks. I want to say 6 Months.

Most checks are 90 days but I have had payroll checks that are valid for 120 days. Your best bet is to call the bank of check and ask for certain.

ALOT of checks expire in 30 days... OR 90 days.. but if its a payroll check it usually expires within 1-3 months.
