One way to interpret this question would be 'how serious would it be if the story of Jesus' divinity was false'? Which is a trick question, because beliefs aren't based on fact or evidence. Whether or not Jesus was actually divine doesn't make any difference to a believer, because they have faith that he was, no matter what kind of evidence is presented to the contrary. Atheists have something in common with real believers here, because even the most compelling testimonials from the bible aren't based on scientific evidence, and since their opinions as a group are based on scientific merit, they are equally unlikely to be swayed by "extremist" (based on their relative positions) counter-arguments.

Pseudo-believers would be exposed immediately by their recanting of their beliefs. I fear pseudo-believers far more than real believers or atheists, because you never know when a pseudo-believer will latch onto something new and exploit people for it.
