Enemy Mine, made around '85, is my favorite after deciphering it out of the many movies I'm fond of [many]. Boiled down, a man in a space ship and an alien in another crash land on the same planet, and proceed to advance knowing one another better as a result of the difficult situation they're in, at first fearing eachother, and then going on to developing a sense of brotherlihood after time. The messages in this movie are meaningful and simply a testament to unity within society that everyone should take into consideration. The story and message blend smoothly the entire way and does not stray into over complicating the eloquence in simplicity, a masterpeice, to me of course.
imdb.com should have more on it

My favorite movie is "Like Water for Chocolate." Its a story about two lovers, and how they still loved each other despite what was going on in there lives.
