Ok I have been on prenatal pills and everything, but my insurance was denied until just a week ago, and as soon as I had the number I called the doc for an appt, I am 28 weeks. No one would see me because I was too far along. So finally I found a doctor that I was referred to, he is a man though, I was sexually abused as a child and FREAK at the idea of some unknown man touching me down there. Any suggestions??? My doctors appointment is today!!!!

Julie- Don't worry I am putting my child first, I can't imagine not. That's why I agreed to the appt knowing it was a man. No one else would see me and I HAD to get in. So I said, ok... It just freaks me out. I had one miscarriage, and my doc was on vacation back then, I had to see a male, when I told him that I would schedule the D&C with my doctor because I was uncomfortable with a man because I was abused he looked right at me and my husband and said, "Were you really sexually abused? How did you feel comfortable having sex in the first place if you were." That mortified me even more!

Okay so I have the same problem, and that doctor was an A** because it's different when you know and trust and love the man you are having sex with!!
now about the Doctor make sure someone you know and trust is with you, and either talk the whole time or try and think of the baby and things that make you happy, that's they only thing that gets me throw it without freakin out! good luck honey!!

Have you considered a certified nurse midwife? Midwifery is the standard of care in many countries. Will you have insurance for the birth? I have had two hospital births and will be having my third at home this December. My CNM is an absolute peach! I loved my ob, but this is so different and much better. The prenatal care and birth with my CNM costs $2,000 cash, If I had the baby in the hospital it would only cost us $15, but would cost over $8,000 if we did not have insurance. Midwives are very caring and treat you like an individual...not likejust another chart. Really, check in to it on-line. Homebirth is just as safe or safer for a healthy woman than a hospital birth. Best wishes.

Doctors are professionals and should never do anything that would make a patient feel violated or uncomfortable, but if you don't wish to be examined by a male doctor, I'm sure that at least he could refer you to a good female doctor instead.

There must be someone there who will understand ur situation, and give u a female doc, or midwife. If they can't, remember, ur child's health is most important, and try to put those feelings past u, as u are dealing w/a professional.

You will be fine. I'm almost certain that the nurse or medical asst. have to be in the room will he examines you. Maybe after today, you can try to find a female doctor for you other appt.

Don't think of him as just a man, but as a professional. If it helps, there MUST be a female nurse in the room when he examines you. I was raped when I was 15 but I still chose a male doctor. I chose him because he was very experienced in his profession.

Don't think of the Doctor as a men. Also...take someone with you like your husband or a friend. Just relax...they aren't going to hurt you.

Ask if there is a female dr. or Nurse practioner in the office. They should be able to see you and it still be covered by the same insurance.
