do you know where she was born? do you know of any of her decendants. you might be able to do a family tree on them at ancestry.com.

Do you know her full address? do you know her date of birth or when she lived in the house? Was she single or married? Any further information would be useful!
You could try contacting the Registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths.
Do you know which church was around at that time? Perhaps the vicar there can help you - I am not sure where or when or even if records of births, marriages and deaths are kept from that long ago, but the vicar may be able to help you.
Another thought is the Land Registry - they may be able to help you as well. They seem to use stuff from there in Time Team!
Oh, and the local council may also be able to help you with where old records from then may be held.
The Law Society may also be able to give you some help - with wills. If she was single, she may have either been left the house, or have left it to someone.
Sorry I cannot give you any exact information, justs leads. You will need to spend a lot of time on the phone - and I think some legwork may be needed as well!!!
Good luck in your search - and please let me know if you were successful!

That's pretty tough. It depends on how good the record keeping is in the area you live in. One idea would be to do a title search on the house, if it goes back that far, you could find out who owned the house at that time. Otherwise, you could see how far back the courthouse records go back and see if you can dig something up there.
Sorry, wish I could be more help.

Many women lived in houses in the 17th century, had first names and last names. This is going to be an impossible search, but you might start looking in cemetaries to find her.

You need to look in the parish records of the town. Before these things were collected nationally, births, marriages and deaths were all done by the local church.

you can try ancestory.com...........its pay to view site but their info seems pretty detailed and they go back as far as the 1600's.....you could search the area for family names and then begin to narrow your search with the 1 letter you have and find out when that family came to this country, where they came from, and info from the country of origion

Rely on the name and try trace through the family name. Paternal or maternal. You may end up relying on the info they have on him/her.

Try to find area's last record in order to identify her. Then try to find out if she had any children.
