I see people workign for $6.00 an hour, $12.00 an hour, $25.00 an hour or whatever an hour. Who are they to tell you that you are only worth ____ an hour? Really, how much are you worth? Are you really only worth $8.00 an hour? Think about that for a minute. If you are working for a set rate an hour, what determines that? The cost of the product you make? The cost of the service you provide? Or what?

Get a job in sales. Work off commissions. For instance. The more you sell, the more you make. If you sell something and make $1,000 commission, yet you only worked for that person or business you sold for two hours to make the sale then you made $500 an hour. SALES is where it's at! what do you think?

Hourly rates are set by the market. It's like any other product or service----you take your experience, education and skill set to the marketplace, and you essentially sell that to the highest bidder (which is not necessarily the highest hourly rate, when you start considering benefits and intangibles, but you get the idea). You are worth EXACTLY the price you can get in the free market.

Not everyone can (or wants to) work in sales, on commission. It's true that if you make $1,000 commission in 2 hours, that's a pretty good hourly rate. But if you make $1,000 commission, you're probably selling a product worth $10,000-20,000, and my guess is you're usually going to have to work a bit longer than 2 hours for each sale.

sales is up and down, regardless of industry. you'll have your slow months and good months so your pay will vary. it's true they pay a lot better than salaried/hourly jobs but there's a tradeoff. some people are more comfortable with the fact that they know when and what they're getting paid and that they ARE getting a paycheck. I work in commissions so I know the tales of both sides. it's all a matter of your preference. do you want to work 3-4 years at a job and hope you get a raise or do you want to go balls out and make your paper ASAP? just depends on what you're comfortable with doing and putting up with. besides, hourly jobs ARE what you're worth. if you get a $7/hr job, that's what you're worth in today's market. as far as determining woorth, whatever you make an hour, add $3-4 dollars to it and there you go. employers will always lowball your salary just to test you out first. then if you work out, you'll be given a "raise" for what you're really worth. The amount you should have been making from the get go but really weren't worth it at the time.

What do I think? I think you're a very simple person. Some jobs are not sales related, like doctoring or lawyering, etc.
