It all depends on what your comfort level is and how much can you afford to spend on the electricity bill. When I lived in the hot and humid south, we kept our central air at 75 degrees which was comfortable and didn't rack up a huge electric bill. And 75 degrees is very comfortable when it is 95 to 100 degrees outside.

GOOD is subjective aqnd relative to your very personal comfort level/tolerance. I happen to enjoy Sun/heat, and warm enough in a home for my own comfort. 78 works fine for me, especially when idle.

The factor is as much economy as comfort, and if you have more money than you can spend in other ways, certainly you can lower the temp, use more energy, spend more money, deplete in some ways, reserves, and be content without guilt.

Ours is set for 77 when we are home, 80 when we are not home, 78 for nighttime, and we use ceiling fans.
Raise the temp when you are gone to cut costs...and whoever is at 68-70, you must pay through the nose and freeze your **** off! Those are my heating temps!!!

Here in SC the electric company says 78 for the summer and 68 for the winter. Otherwise you spend a lot more money.

We normally keep ours on 70, this is not too cold and if it's on automatic your air conditioner kicks on less often. We also have two cats, if you keep the temperature constant in your home then they have a lesser need to grow more fur (too cold) or shed fur (too hot) we are built along the same lines. It is less work for your air to keep a constant temperature then it is to cool down or heat up.

It depends. If you are trying to save money, put it on 78. If you want to be comfortable put it on 70.

There's a song lyric for every occasion...

"How low can you go?"
