Liberals believe in honest above board fighting and don't understand the low tactics of the Conservatives.
Liberals like to believe that people are good; want to trust the government; that the least among us must be recognized as valuable.
Liberals believe God gave us all talents. Some more than others but they are all God given and meant to be shared with the least among us.
Liberals are gullible and will believe a Conservative with claims of honesty and good will toward men. Liberals are peace loving with low need to controll others.
Liberals are not anti-gun. They believe we may need to defend ourselves against our own government at some point in the future.
Just as the Patriots did against England. That is why we have the right to bear arms.
Some liberals have money but most don't. We know that the wealthiest do not understand the middle class nor the least among us.

What makes a liberal a liberal??? Republicians !!!

Hey, I'm a registered republican and agree that big gov't is wrong but the right is no longer for small gov't rather it what Hugh Downs says there is no 2 party system anymore...only politicians and I think he is right... but the idea of being a liberal does not meant borrow yourself into prosperity.... it doesn't mean be trillions in debt or that business men can make 60,000 times minimum wage. Also being liberal doesn't mean redistribute the wealth it means working together to make the American experience good for all humans. That the rich are getting richer is more than a cliche' it's the truth and trickle down was a scam like killing is a solution is a scam and against your religion. Yes we are but a young country ... do you get my meaning in my uneloquent way???

It seems to me that there are different shades of being a liberal/democrat. They aren't necessarily the same thing. You have a democrat like Joe Lieberman or one like Howard dean and you're talking really different values and beliefs. You also have a democrat like Dennis Kucinich, who comes across like a new age hippie, but who also has the most restrictive abortion rights voting record in congress (he's Catholic). Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that, as I am somewhat conservative on that issue, and I'm a democrat. I suppose the main thing that makes a modren day liberal what they are is the fact that they believe in fairness, helping people out using government as a tool, making large corporations responsible for the s@#t they do, and keeping both the state and church out of our private lives.

Compassion first and foremost. That a great deal of the suffering that goes on is unnecessary if the resources are available to help people. Freedom of choice, freedom of speech. Equality for all. I'm pro-choice but that's a personal value, believing that a woman has the ultimate understanding of whether or not she should carry a feotus to term if it would have anyway. I am anti-gun because they are more often used to kill innocent people than to protect (thinking small children, suicide, accidental deaths). I believe in full medicare, maternity leave that's long enough for a woman to recover and bond with her child (6 to 12 months), welfare, unemployment insurance, and yes, even taxes because they pay for these things that make life good for all. And for those who object to their hard earned taxes going to layabouts or sick people, remember life is good now, but it may not be tomorrow. And it may not be for a loved one you know.

Liberals want to feel peoples pain. but not do anything about it to prevent it. Liberals want to help people after they are at rock bottom. Liberals want to mother people and snuggle them (even if they murdered or raped someone its not really their fault- their mother must have given them chocolate milk instead of oval-teen) Liberals always want to pass the blame on someone else. Liberals do not believe that most people, if given a chance can succeed if they WANT to and Most liberals Believe that most "super wealthy" are Republicans which they aren't, (the wealthiest people in the country -people making over 10 mil. per yr. are democrats and the poorest people are democrats) Republicans fall in the middle.
Liberals believe that no matter what a person does they can be saved ( when many conservatives think they should fry).
Again this list could go on forever.
bu to wrap it up I would say the difference would be like the old cliche's . Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day =Liberal= but teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for the rest of his life =Conservative=
Liberals want to feel your pain, Conservatives want to Cure it!!!!!

As a liberal I believe in the rights of those unable or unwilling to speak for themselves which includes animals and plants. I also like guns, they are the last refuge of the downtrodden. Like Zappata says, "its better to die on ones feet then it is to continue living on ones knees." He was also declared a criminal and hunted by the US Government, by the way. As a liberal I do not believe my government is perfect and we have to work to make it better than it was yesterday if we actually care as Jesus implied when he said,"Even the tax collectors love their families, I want you to love as I do." (paraphrased) As a liberal, I dislike making exact lists and qualifiers, the world ebbs and flows even in the affairs of man, so how little are we, to say "This is how exactly we must be, or we must avoid that behavior"? As a liberal I would like others to find enjoyment in all the things they do, even contributing to things they cannot control. As a liberal I believe no being alive is perfect and needs checks and balances, like our government is supposed to have. As a liberal I believe we should all snuggle more and have less sex.

It's not about pro/anti anything. It's about not imposing the set of "values" that one group or individual has on another group or individual. Pro-Choice is not in support of abortion, it is in support of the individuals right to choose for themselves. Apply this to most issues and you have a liberal.

Here is a definition of liberal from Dictionary.com. This agrees with my definition of liberal.

Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.
Liberal Of, designating, or characteristic of a political party founded on or associated with principles of social and political liberalism, especially in Great Britain, Canada, and the United States.

Tending to give freely; generous: a liberal benefactor

And to roejo_58 I believe you are describing the conservatives that now control our country.

Liberals think there is an endless supply of money. you can tax the working populus out of existance and then blame someone else. Liberals are afraid to stand up for themselves and fight( look at France, Queens of liberals)...and so on and so on
