No, it's al oad of rubbish. Flies live for several days to several months as a larva (maggot) and live for several more days to several more months as an adult.

First, one must consider that insects have different life stages and spend varying amounts of time in each life stage. While the amount of time spent in each life stage is generally determined by genetics and therefore varies among different species, there is also some plasticity that allows environmental factors such as light, temperature, moisture, etc. to determine specifically when the transition to the next stage occurs.
When referring to the length of time an insect is alive, one must refer either to a specific stage (e.g. adult) or to the entire life cycle (i.e. generation time). Assuming that your question refers to adult flies in the order Diptera, the answer is no. While there may be some species that only survive 24 hours as adults, most live longer. Drosophila melanogaster (a common fruit fly species) typically spends about 7 days transitioning from egg to larva, to pupa, to adult, then an additional 7-10 days or so as an adult.
One of the previous answers mentions mayflies. Mayflies are in the order Ephemeroptera, not Diptera, and are therefore not true flies. Mayfly nymphs (pre-adults stages) live in freshwater ecosystems and undergo mass emergences from the water, then fly around mating until they die about 24 hours after emerging. The name of the order they're in actually comes from this unusual life history pattern. Ephemero roughly means "about a day".

Certain flies really do live for 12-24 hours, but as grown-up forms, while their wormlike forms live up to 1 year. Most of the flies (like the house fly) live up to 3 years.
