If I'm understanding you right, it is (3z - 1)/4 + (z-7)/4.

They are already in like terms, so you can add them across:

3z + z = 4z and -1+ -7 = -8, so now you have
(4z - 8)/4.

Now you need to simplify your fraction: 4z/4 = z and -8/4 = -2.

Now you are left with z - 2.

The majority is correct here.
First, the denominators are the same, so you can just add the numerators. (3z-1) + (z-7) = 4z-8, so now you have (4z-8)/4.
You can factor a 4 out of the top to get 4(z-2)/4. Cancelling a 4 out of the numerator and denominator you get (z-2)/1 which equals z-2.

By the way, I hope you take the time to learn to do this on your own and not let other people do your homework for you.

Your not too clear on this expression, so there is confusion over your answer. From what can be guessed, you have two possibilities:
1. If the expression is {(3z-1)/4}+{(z-7)/4}, then the simplest form is z-2
2. If the expression is (3x-1)/{4+(z-7)/4}, then the simplest form is 12z(squared)+112z+36

I understand the question as
(3z-1)/ { 4 + [z-7]/ 4}.
Multiply up and down with 4:
4(3z-1)/ { 16 + [z-7]} =
4(3z-1)/(z+9). That's it.

OR

3z-1 over 4 + z-7 over 4 =
(3z-1)/4 + (z-7)/4 =
[(3z-1) + (z-7)] / 4 =
[ 4z - 8 ] / 4 = z - 2

(3z-1) / 4+(z-7) / 4
=3z-1+z-7 / 4
=4z-8 / 4
=4(z-2) / 4
=z-2

3z-1+z-7 = 4z-8 over 4 = 4z-2 over 1 = 4z-2
I'm guessing this is right

Now this is a guess:

= 4z - 8 over 4 over 4 = z-2 over 4 = 4z-4 over 4 = z-2

(3z-1) + (z-7)
------- ------
4 4

becomes:

(3z-1) + (z-7)
-----------------
4

because of the common denominator. Then it becomes:

3z-1 + z -7
--------------
4

because of order of operations, which just makes it

4z-8
------
4

when adding up the common variables. Factor out the 4, and you get:

z-2, which is the simplest form.
