Its one of the most popular games in the world. Its the most watch around the world and its one of the most important evens in history after the Olimpics. So I said yes u r right some people need to put things into perspective. But if you told that to an american football fan or a baseball fan and even hockey and basketball. They will probably get into a big argument. Untill the your team or national team wins a world cup you have almost no idea what the feeling is like. Same way americans have a very strong national pride some other people have it too and is more notice in the sports they are best on.
I hope this answers the question.

Yeah of course there are more important things in life but they are men and when do they ever put things in perspective - lol. It's just a month every 4 years that they can let off steam and shout at all the wrong and biased decisions the refs all make - I find it hilarious. The thing is England ain't gonna win the world cup but don't tell any one.

No - you have shown the reason why you don't get it yourself by saying that you only "like" football - well I love football as it is the greatest game on this planet - and the World Cup is the greatest sporting competition and sporting event there is - the agony and joy of watching your club or country fail or win is something that cannot be explained to those who just do not get it - the passion that fans feel worldwide was shown by the last World Cup final that was watched by an estimated 218 million people worldwide - and the last European Championship watched by 153 million people worldwide.

Are you a religious person? In modern society the value of religion, and subsequently belief, and consequently faith are things that are rapidly diminishing as society moves towards greater secularism. Therefore something has to fill the void left behind and invoke the passions of our soul and if it's not the divine then a sport has very similar emotions attached.
True football fans will see the sport as a religion on which belief in a team is based on faith. Much like people will see religion on which belief in a God is based on faith. That faith that both are based on is ultimately bliind faith, more so in the case of God as there is no undisputed proof of his existence. Whether there are more important things in life is upto the believer to decide depending on how much faith he or she has. Just because you do not have that same faith does not mean that one thing is ultimately more important than the other, it is simply important in the eye of the beholder. As a very wise man once said: "Football is not a matter of Life and Death. It is far more important than that."

Yeah I think sometimes they do take it a little overboard but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. They are just doing what they love. And there's nothing wrong with being passionate about soccer. Its a great game and I think it should be celebrated. It does only come once every four years. So I say let them go as crazy as they want.

Football fulfils the human urge to fight.

It is instinctive and natural.

Those of us who are 'civilised' tend to find someway of channelling that 'fight' energy somewhere...

Just so happens LOTS of people do it through football...

It's OK by me.... better than killing people...

But 22 grown men chasing a bag of wind....?

;o)

Each to their own!

No I don't. I think that too many people put too much emphasis on American football.
