I agree that we get ourselves in too many conflicts around the world, but as the only true superpower left in the world, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and as one of the eight (possibly 9 or 10 if North Korea and Iran continue on their course of action) nuclear-capable countries it is the job of the United States to be polic-force of the world. nobody else has the tools to keep the peace. Look at Somalia before Black Hawk Down. We sent in 20,000 US Marines and order was restored. We left the Pakistani army in charge and left the country. All hell broke loose and we had to send the Rangers and Delta Force in to clean up the mess.
If the United States is not willing to stand up for other countries and be keepers of the peace, no one else will. Britain and Canada don't have the military strength, Russia doesn't have the money, France doesn't have the will power, and China doesn't really care. Who else has the tools, manpower, and money to tackle the job of world's policeman?

i am british and i think that USA as a world super power should with the backing of other so called super power countries go into other countries that threaten the stability of the world. We the more powerful nations should protect the poorer countries and people of this world .we have to be very carefull though and not just pick and choose what country needs help, if we go into one unstable country we must endeavour to go into countries that are not rich in oil so we cant make money from them, I think the USA and GB have made a mistake with iraq, the outside world thinks that we invaded not to get sadam but to have a strangle hold on the oil that the middle east has lots of. we have taken out one dictator so we must show the world that we wont stop there and it will prove that we will take out all the dictators.

I had always admired the Swiss for staying neutral and protecting there borders and always being prepared for anything by keeping all men over 18 years of age trained to use a gun. I don't think it is a coincidence that Swiss bank accounts are so valuable. They take care of themselves first so they are in a position to help if anyone asks for it.
But to answer your question, I think we have too many problems here to worry about problems else where. If something is a threat to us outside this country then we should get involved.

I think America has enough problems of their own that they need to hand before trying to handle or get involve with other countries problem. America can not be the "Savior" for all the other countries. WHy are trying to help feed other nations, when we have so many homeless and starving people here in our country. Why are we trying to help control other governments when our government is so corrupt. I think we need to get the needle out of our eye before trying to get it out of others.

I think how other countries conduct their affairs is none of our business unless they threaten us or our allies, or someone actually ASKS for our help. Why should we try to bring freedom to countries that don't know how to deal with it because it's alien to their way of life? Especially when we don't have a hell of a lot of our own freedom left. I can understand why they hate us for trying to give them the same screwy systems we've got.
If we didn't spend so much time trying to "fix" other countries, maybe we'd be able to fix some of the problems in our own. Yeah maybe it looks good to help the less fortunate, but how good does it look when our homeland goes to pot while we're worrying about everyone else?

Get something straight.
America gets involved in other countries problems because of America's interests. The politicians may tell you we are doing it for humanitarian reasons and sometimes humanitarian aid is given, but its all just for propaganda.
America is protecting its interest and whether that means invading a sovereign nation to steal its oil or handing out food in the deserts of Africa so we don't seem so bad, it is NEVER because we are just nosy or want to help.

Most definitely, consider this, we tried playing neutral, leaving the Wars to the Eastern hemisphere, just hoping that the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans would keep us safe. You know hwat happened to that. Pearl Harbor. Yeah, so if we do stay out let htem take care of themselves imagine all the dictatorships we would have to handle later. Those who would see our freedom and seek to destroy it. We have to do this. We definitely have right. The world is getting smaller all the time. It's our world too. Question, in your town say everything is good, you have good laws and good control on gangs, then say one day a neighboring town, one you hadn't messed with or had contact, one of their gangs came over and killed your best friend, or your kid, or you mom, or your lover. Is it still not your job to take interest. Do you have the right to make that town stop what it's doing? I know, I know you say htere's no connection from Iraq to Afghanistan, but look at the ideas of Saddam and Osama, they're very, very, frightfully similar, so therefore, just because he hadn't attacked us yet does not say that he wouldn'tve. It was our people that were killed, that brought us into the fight on terror, and Iraq had,and still has terrorists in it, so therefore, it is our right.

Our present leaders feel that they have the right to whatever they want. If another nation doesn't like what we are doing there, we replace their government with one of our choosing that does, and then get that new government to invite us in. This nation's foreign policy is completely controled by major corporate interests. Evey member of the Bush cabinet is a multi-millionaire and connected to major private corporations, usually big oil. The vast majority of our foreign aid is military aid to regimes that support and protect US corporate interest inside the borders of their respective countries. Our only interests abroad self-interest of our governments corporate sponsors.

well thats a interesting ? I don't like to mettle in others affairs, but if you got a buch of idiots trying to destroy the nation in which we get our supplies from then its becomes our business. some the things our nation has a tendency to like and cherish come from these nations and if we don't step in a try to settle the problem then we can forget the things we want. The other factor is the protection of our country. If we don't mettle then we open the door for them to strike us like it did in the 9-11 case.

Yes, and many other countries expect us to do this, all while criticizing us for doing it. That way, it allows them to stay astride their high horse while knowing the job will get done. Case in point: the French.
