Some of her issues (the way I see it):

- Her peculiar relationship with her boss, Jack Crawford, who obviously is a father figure to her.
- Her relationship with the FBI and what the FBI stands for.
- The senator's daughter, whom she is trying to rescue. Note that she is not just somebody's daughter, but the duaghter of a *senator*.
- Plus of course Hannibal Lecter himself, pure evil and diametrically opposed to what she is and what she seeks:redemption?

She also had to have career issues. She was in training to be an agent, as I recall, and knew she was over her head. She wanted to make an impression that would help her career.

Maybe you could look into the unique relationship she had with Hannibal Lector.

I also think she was trying to be someone she wasn't, cause she felt she was like white trash or something. That's why Hannibal tells her that she's wearing cheap perfume, trying to pretend to be someone better.... right??
