Yes, I was born and raised in Wisconsin, and lived there until I was 25 (moved to be in my husband's hometown-not really to "get out"). Wisconsin gets a bad rap, for the most part, as being backward, hickish, and out-of-step with the rest of the country. It can actually be quite politically progressive, as with the current push toward recognizing the rights of gay couples. It has very rural and small-town areas, some of which are filled with neighbors of the same ethnicity, having emmigrated and stayed together. It also has a large city in Milwaukee with an international airport, professional sports teams, and beautfiul lakefront on Lake Michigan. Madison has a world-reknowned center of culturally-diverse learning in the UW-Madison, and many, many people choose to make Madison their home after having come to study there.
Wherever I travel, I find I usually end up "defending" my Wisconsin heritage from it's poor reputation, but, more and more, people are beginning to recognize Wisconsin as home to more than cheeseheads and brat bellies!

I'm from Wisconsin, and it doesn't taste like a dirty nickel....anyways- it really depends on the part of the state you are located I guess. Milwaukee is cool b/c it is starting to really get off the ground with trendier places and it's close to Chicago for a day trip. Madison is very nice too, great college town with nice lakes and lots of choices for exercise. Northern parts of Wisconsin get really snowy and cold in the winter, but the hunting and fishing is unparalleled in the states. I mean come on, we have the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, Badgers, Marquette Golden Eagles, and UW-Milwaukee Panthers in one state. All in all, I do enjoy Wisconsin, but the weather can really stink sometimes. Nuff said.

My boyfriend is from Wis and now lives down south with me. I lived up there for 9 months and it is was so boring! The food is boring, the clothes are boring. It was kind of like being stuck in a time warp. Do not recommend for long term residency, but the summers are nice- cooler than the south.
