Uta Hagen is DEAD, she died in 1984! I'm not sure if the school, HB Studio, is still in business.
If you are getting an MFA, you should go to NYU (New York University), the school is recognized for its fine theater department.
Since you do not currently live here, don't concern yourself with looking for local acting teachers.
When you move to NYC, you will meet a lot of actors, keep a notebook with you, so you can write down the names/phone numbers of teachers you hear about.
After you have a long list of prospective acting teachers, call each one and ask if you can audit (observe) a class.
It's important to audit because you will see what an actual class is like.
Do NOT go to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. The school not been recognized for theater training since the 1950s. program since the 1950s. The training is mediocre and does not do anything for your resume.
When considering teachers/schools, you must know what type of training you want: Method (Strasberg), Meisner, etc.
There are hundreds of acting schools/teachers, in New York City. Add this to your list: http://catherinegaffigan.com/
Unfortunately, most of the great acting teachers/coaches are deceased. Therefore, the schools are currently only as good as the current teachers.
Some schools rest on their laurels, going back to the early '60s, i.e., Robert DiNiro at the Actors Studio (Lee Strasberg Institute/ Method training).
There are teachers in the city that teach the Meisner Technique.
Make your own decision as you observe the teachers and students.
Therefore, you may want to disregard the indepent acting schools and teachers.

When you consider acting schools, you MUST think about the quality of the school, as the 'wrong school' on your resume, can "kill" you as an actor in New York City. They want to see the BEST school.
