I'm going to Jamaica for the first time, planning to go to Negril for their ATI Independence Weekend (heard its mad fun)!!! Any great resorts available that anyone can suggest?

Which weekend are you going? This year we are having two ATI weekends. One from July 28-August 1 the other from Agust 3-6. The Ritz is too expenisve and in Mobay, you woluld not dont be able to drive back there each morning and come back to negril in the afternoon after all the drinking and hedonistic behaviour OR afford cab fare.
All you need for ATI is a place to shower and get a few hours' sleep. Stay away from resorts-wouldnt be worth the money you wont use any of the amenities.
Im concerned, as the rooms are completely booked now except for the occassional cancellation. Go to www.negril hotels.com and start calling around NOW.
Who are you planning to go with? Are you going alone? Or with other first timers? I asume you are. You do know about the structure of the weekend, right? Armbands etc. Go back to whoever told you about ATI and ask them for a contact here in Jamaica and direct your questions at them.

The Ritz is very $$$. Sandals is out of the way from the party scene in Negril. You have to take a bus. I have been to Negril, but never stayed the night there. Go to www.tripadvisor.com. Type in Jamaica, then at the top of the page there is a forums tab. There is TONS of info and LOTS of people on there to tell you where the most fun and cheapest place to stay.

my parents went to the ritz carlton in jamaica and said it was really nice.
