What does his feet look like? Email me if you want, I've had a turtle for 6 years now and he's the best pet ever! If you found him, you may want to put it back..sounds like the inclined spikes could be a sign of it being a snapper. A turtle is a aquatic creature, should have kinda webbed looking feet, and a tortoise has more stubby legs, with no webbing, and they are land animals, no water.

You need to identify the turtle, since the care for different kinds is a LOT different from the others.

Snapping turtle or map turtles would be my starting point. The web site below has a gallery you can look at, and a series of basic care sheets.

Once you've identified the turtle, let us know and we can help more!

Sounds like a snapper, maybe even an alligator snapper. Email a pic maybe I can tell. If it is a snapper they eat most anything. It's not recommended but my brother has had one for 20 some years and feeds it dry dog food. If it is a tortoise do not put it in water it will drown, but they like to bath in shallow water. They eat mostly vegetation. Make sure what you have. The bottom shell (plastron) of a snapper is shaped like a cross, most others are oval.

It sounds like it is an aquatic turtle, meaning it lives in freshwater and only comes on land to lay eggs. It eat fist, shrimp and pellets. Turtle pellets are best b/c they priovide all the necessary nutrients. Fish pellets are OK.

You need to identify the turtle. From your description, I suspect it is a snapping turtle. Madkins007 suggest a map turtle as well, which is possible. I think it is snapper b/c ther more common and easier to catch.

I also suspect you have a female... since it is egg laying season. As I mentioend earlier, aquatic turtles come on lond to lay eggs and you likely found a female. I urge you to return her incase she is still gravid. If she does not lay eggs, she may face complications from being eggbound.

If you need firther advice, feel free to email.

i think that your turtle is a seaturtle and you have to raise it in an aquarium with WATER check if it eats meat if it does then it is for shure a water turtle and if it doesn't try givving it leaves if it eats them it's a land turtle
if it's a water turtle in the aquarium there has to be a lamp and a large stone the turtle has to klimb on it to breath and the lamp acts lioke the sun you have to feed it shrimps but not alive just ask in a petshope and they will tell you
if you have a land turtle it's very simple to raise it. just circle a plase in your yard 2 metres on 2 metres with wire and put the turtle there make shure that there are plants in that location and every day you have to walk your turtle every day for about 2 hours you just let it in your garden and look after it it will eat only weeds and don't worry it won't eat anything poison but just to make shure i don't advice you to let it near poison aivi
