All I know is that the Greeks started their dates from the first Olympic Games which was around 770 BC. So using that calendar the year 1 (as we know it) would've been 770, and we are currently in 2776 (or somewhere thereabouts). Of course there were many different calendars at use at the time from various parts of the world, and I think a few years have either been added or taken away from our calendar over the centuries.
I'm sure that if you did some research into Roman, Greek and Egyptian ( I mean, they were around for at least two thousand years before Jesus) history you could find out more.

Good question. I have no idea of the answer. Sorry.
Because the world was much "smaller" in those days (IE people didn't integrate much) I guess there was no standard. Maybe they didn't call it anything.
Or how about BC - before computers
or BWS - before white stripes
or BTQ- before this question
?

Actually, many were in expectation of when he would arrive on the world scene. Many prophecies and signs showed when he would appear, and when his ministry would begin, also when he would die.
