Depending where you go. If you go to the yuppie part of the city (More expensive) if you go to the other parts (Cheaper) but paying the price seeing more gangbangers, drugs and etc...
If you do not care, it's fine if you do not have children. I think is more troubling where to live when you have a child.
But the North side of Chicago is very-very nice.......Especially for bar hopping or the nightlife

pro - best damn barbeque and restaurants in your neighborhood,fireflies in the summer, beautiful architecture, nice buildings, houses have porches and basements
con- hotter than hell 90% humidity and 90 degrees at 9 pm ,not an uncommon occurrance in the summer, dry county, don't sell alcohol in some counties, not a con if you don't drink, and it is friggin cold and snowy in the winter, the weather makes it a miserable place,

Pros - Museums, Theater, Opera, Da Bears, Lake Michigan
Cons - lots o' people, traffic, crime

The winter weather sucks balls. Too cold, too windy, too wet... just miserable. Big con.
The diversity of life and variety of things to do are pros.

Cons: It has the same issues as any large city.
Pros: LOTS to do, wonderful places to eat, so many different cultures, and if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes and it will change. :-)
