Perhaps it is because today's grumpiness is not motivated by a cool appraisal of the modern world, but rather by old-fashioned snobbery.

Look at the moaners' main targets - chavs, or people with "crap jobs" who live in "crap towns" and buy "terrifying" furniture from Ikea, eat in soulless fast food restaurants and chat endlessly on their mobile phones, in bad English.

What seems to make the grumpy old men so grumpy is a certain class of people and their habits.

Behind the distaste for the modern world there seems to lurk an even greater dislike for the people who populate it. And such snobbery is something we should all moan about.

It probably comes from the fact that most men pride themselves in their strength and ability to work all day. I know my husband, of 31 years, was breath-takingly strong when we were first married. He loved to impress me.

Now that he is getting older, the endurance he had is not there like it use to be. However, he is still in great shape and probably could out work physically nearly 70% of most 30+ year old men today. I am very proud of my husband and love him deeply. However, I see he has a tendency to get a little discouraged about the physical changes in his life. That's where my love and support comes in and is valuable. Who else can tease him and kid him, encourage him and lift up him better than than me? I've loved him for over 31 years, and not one knows him better!

There isn't another man in the entire world I would want to be with than my husband. If I had it to do all over again, he would be the one I would want to spend my entire married life with.

Women don't like getting older that much either, so, I guess we could be coined 'grumpy ol' women!' :) But hey, growing old beats the alternative!
