I am from Hawaii and have lived on the island of Oahu for the most part of my life. The pros are the people - it's like a big family - everyone is so friendly. The cons- the cost of living. It is so expensive.

I see relatively NO drawbacks to living there. I have visited a couple of the Hawaiian Islands a number of times and find the living to be divine. It appears that being a homeless person is the way to go there. They are tanned, smiling and fat! All a homeless person needs there are five things: a swim suit, a towel (which can also be used as a skirt when going into public places that require clothing), a hairbrush, some flip flops (most eating establishments require footwear) and some soap. There are soup kitchens where you can get free eats. Showers at the beach are also free. It seems like a no stress lifestyle. I truly aspire to be a homeless Hawaiian.

well, as others have said, the cost of living is amazingly high.a gallon of milk there is anywhere from $7-8 for a gallon!!! Real estate is real high too. Depending on which island you live on you could be threatened with various natural disasters too(volcanoes, tsunamis, and such). Some pros though are that it is very clean there. On the beaches no one would think of leaving garbage lying around. The scenery is beautiful. The climate is amazing, and the people are very laid back and friendly.
Hope this helps!!!
