Well that couldn't happen. Our blood has to have oxygen mixed with it in order for blood to serve its purpose. Without it, there would be no platelets in our blood, therefore no defense mechanism to viruses and bacteria. We'd die of a simple common cold in hours. In addition, without oxygen, our brain cells would die and we would be a complete "vegetable" in about 2 hours.

If you are talking about putting the biologic stuff aside and assuming out biological bodies didn't need oxygen, then we'd be able to sleep with the fishes. We wouldn't need a heart anymore, because the purpose of the heart is to take unoxidated blood and mix it with oxygen that we breathe in, then pump it through out our bodies. In addition, we could travel through space without worrying about oxygen

Breathing (active pulmonary activity) allows for a much higher level of energy processing. That's why you don't see plants chasing each other or arm wrestling.

If we didn't breath in this sense, we would become extremely inactive. Our metabolism would be almost non-existent, and therefore we would eat almost nothing to maintain body mass.

However, most living things "breathe" in the sense of transfer of atmosphere (CO2 / O2 in plant transpiration, reversed for us). Fish filter through gills instead of air sacs (lungs) and skin. So the idea we could survive without air (or water in case of gills) would mean we would have to use alternate chemical process for energy. We would have to ferment, such as what yeast does.

Breathing in traditional Chinese medicine is a whole body experience, and has to do with your natural energy field (chi - breath) within and without the body. If a living being does not breathe in this sense, it's dead. It defines life in contrast to mere organic matter. So in this sense, the question bcomes irrelevant.

Well, since the human body needs oxygen, and there is no oxygen in space, a person that didn't breathe could travel through space without an oxygen suit. That would be cool

While there are no known cases of living without breathing in the breathless exercises of the Indian Yogis come very near to than. Confirmed cases of the yogies staying in a buried ground for at least 72 hours are known. There is no divine intervention involved inthese exerises. Before going into the trance the insructions by the yogies to their disciples of bringing them back are routine steps of massaging etc. and not performing pujas. It appears that if you could suspend physical activities substantially the need for breathing is not there. At least not as acute and in normal activities. No overt changes inthe physical conditions of the yogies coming out of the grounds have been observed.

You would not be human, and therefore not a people, nor part of the kingom animalia for that matter. You would need air and/or water to function on this planet since all chemical reactions require one or both. It also implies that you get it through the surface like aerobic bacteria and viruses, insects, worms and plants.

Unless the person started living anerobically, like a bacteria, they'd have to develop another way to get oxygen to our muscles and brain. Do you think the person would develop gills or like the other answerer said, just absorb oxygen through the skin? That'd be interesting. If we absorbed oxygen, I think we'd grow a lot bigger, like animals were bigger in the dinosaur's time. Because we have a lot of skin surface to absorb the oxygen and more oxygen = bigger living things.

Well, the lungs would no longer be needed, and the air pipe would no longer be needed as well, meaning that food flap could be perimatly closed and humans could survive in a veriety of different places.

The body would have to have a different source of intake of oxygen and a different output for the waste carbon.
