It's good that you opened your own account. That's a good first step. Now you need to get your hus. to have his check deposited into YOUR account each time. Explain to him that your credit is already messed up because of all the late payments to the mortgage co. ( if you don't believe me, check your credit rating online) Then YOU make the house payment ea. month from your acct. IT"S IMPORTANT!
To get him to change where the check is deposited, trick him into believing that it is a much better plan, and that he'll still have plenty of spending money to mess around with.

Have part of his check direct depsoit into your account to cover the mortgage. Let the balance go to his own account. If he doesn't agree, then you have a rough road ahead. YOu still have to protect your financial well being. His poor money skills will end up affecting your credit and borrowing power. If it were to get bad enough, all your creditors could tell you to pay up in full, now, because of the credit history. Their right to call in the debt because of bad credit is in every contract you sign. Never seen one without it.

I know...i'm a husband that is learning to stop spending..... He probably grew up poor and never had the things that he thinks will make us happy. The secret it to see the greatness of owning cash or instruments of cash not the loser material by products of the chinese and the advertisers that tell us what we need..... Once we have a 6 month emergency fund set up... once we have the house paid for and the kids college fund started and our retirement funded then we can splurge.... having those priorties taken care of is fun and very challenging.... He'd rather impulse buy for something neet ..... well looking at buying things that make money is very much fun..... How much can this make me for this Year.... How much does debt cost us.... it's tuff when our government thinks it okay to spend our grandchildren;s money so it's okay for us to do it??? the buying fullfills a need to be secure and with you he shouldn't need to have that feeling ...you'll be with him no matter what ,.,,, so stop the testing.... you are with him... lets get better together and make a life that is secure for both of us not secure for industrialists.... Oweing credit cards and mortgage and car payments is the kiss of death.... not having a six month reserve fund is the kiss of death .... convince him the joy of spending money on your future is the fun thing and stop testing if you are going to leave him.

like drug , spending money is an addiction. it gives one emotional high and it feels empower to be able to buy stuff. but it's only short term until the next craving. I do not know enough about your relationships. But I would advise anyone who met someone with an addiction to spend, run as fast and far away as possible!! It's no different dating drug addicts or alcoholics or sex addicts...it's a hugh personal issues that require a lot of effort to quit!!
