Sometimes I know another way to a destination other than the route that the site recommends. I would like to customize the route and see if it is shorter or faster than the route that the site recommends. Do you know of any sites that allow that kind of customizing.

I don't know of any such site, but I sometimes have the same problem. What I will do is ask for directions to a town on the alternate route, and then a second set from that town to my destination. It's not an ideal fix, but it usually gets the job done.
