I would like to give him a special birthday without all the usual cracks about getting old. I would like to invite all our friends too. I'm looking for an affordable way to celebrate without affending anyone ,especially him.

Maybe a trip to somewhere romantic would also be great - where you can have privacy, you'll enjoy each other's company.

You can get catering service and celebrate it at home. This way it's more casual. Another alternative is to have relatives help with the cooking and set ups. If you like outdoors, reserve a place at the park where you can also order catering service.
