Contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with movies or video games or any kind of media. Those things are consequential to the real reason. The deepest instinct in man is fighting, be it to protect their family their people or even just themselves, its what we as men do. If we didn't, our society would be unstable and tyranny would rule constantly.
This instinct is in males at a very young age, it even astonishes me that my seven month old son loves, more than any oher game, to play fight. Just holding his hands and hitting myself with them sends him reeling with laughter. He loves it and I can understand, some of the most memorable, visceral and enjoyable times of my entire life were during a fight. Its as natural to a man as wanting sex. This can be conditioned out of a male as you raise them, but then you have the potential of unbalancing an ancient genetic code and sending him into a life of depression and/or confusion.
It is very sad that so many people believe its the media that makes boys enjoy violence, it just touches an instinct already there. it is not unhealthy in any way, as long as its directed properly like violence towards the unfair, tyrannical or threatening and not the peaceful helpful and loving.
Bottom line:
Let them enjoy their movies and games, just be sure you help them distinguish good violence and bad violence. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, and you can make it.

Media saturation of violence has infused society with a desensitization effect with regards to the social influence of violent tendancies. The overall effect is a higher increase of popular violent games, movies and television programs. However it is important to note that there have always been violent games be it cowboys and indians to cops and robbers violence has always been a part of social play from early onset the difference is that todays society is more accepting of violence then previous generations and that is a sad refelction of the obvious social development schemata resulting in future social deviant behaviours.

because there mothers are at work!

in the good old days when only the father had to work & the mother stayed home with the childern there was less violence.

now that women fought for the right to work... the government made it so they have to work.

as you can see today both parents are working now just to make ends meet & no one is watching or nurtuing the child as they used to.
in the past there was at least 1 full time parent with the kid raising them. now there are none fully commited to the childs development & there are more part time parents then anything nowdays.

lets go back to the times that only one parent had to work even if it is the mom.... having both parents working sells the child short

thanks,

ss

Mainly because parents don't take the time to see if the game they want to play or the movie they want to watch is appropriate. I think parents need to invest more time to their kids, go outside, play games together, cook together, even talk about violence so they can get a better understanding of it.

because it is instinctual. Throughout history man has had to fight to survive and he has had to kill to protect and feed his family. It is hard wired into our brains to like violence because for many centuries it was needed to survive
