Right now the Yankees are not in a position to trade. They really don't have anyone in the farm system b/c they have traded them all away. They have one good young player in Robinson Cano which is a player that they could maybe get some good value out of in a trade but I don't think the Yankees are willing to trade him.
Seriously who do the Yankees have to offer to get a guy like Miguel Cabrera or good young pitching. No one, other teams don't want to take on the bloated contracts of A-Rod, Jeter, Giambi, Johnson, Damon, Pavano, Mussina and so on for their inexpensive young talented players.

They have a team of All-Stars (injured or not) and a great farm system. What this question comes down to is: which is most important?
Last year, Steinbrenner went out of his way to get "old" pitching. Randy Johnson hasn't lived up to the hype, Carl Pavano has barely pitched 5 games, and Jaret Wright has been up and down including injuries. Who solved last year's pitching woes?
Chien-Ming Wang and Aaron Small.
Last year, Womack was a dissappointment at second base. This year, Matsui and Sheffield both went down early. After Tino retired, Giambi was left as the everyday first baseman. Who solved these problems?
Robinson Canó, Melky Cabrera, and Andy Phillips.
As tempting as it may be for the front office to consider, trading these youngsters would cripple this team. After all, look at the Championship teams of the late '90s. Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams; all home-grown!
The New York Yankees are as good as they're going to get. At the very most, they should trade for a pitcher, but the team is perfect the way it is.

They really don't need anyone.I like the Yankees but it is kind of getting old that anyone that is good they end up taking.I think it would really be nice if they traded for some minor league players and then they were able to mold them into a super star instead of stealing another teams star.Don't get me wrong though...I love the Yankees but I am just thinking of what is fair.

The problem with the Stankees is that their pitching is horrible. Yes, Randy Johnson is a "name" but he is 42 years old. I mean think about it, you have a 200 million payroll, yet count on Tanyon Sturtze pitching??? This years Yankee team is only a keg next to second base away from being a slow pitch softball team. Unless they can aquire some QUALITY starting pitching, they may make the playoffs this year just because the AL is so weak, but thats it.

We need pitchers, but we might not if we get more defense and bats. We have to follow the terrible pattern of trading away youth for age...Melky and Robinson Cano could get a lot from teams looking to dump salary...
I say go after Soriano and Vlad Guerrero. The Nats and Angels should be about ready to sell off their parts.

They need help in the middle relief area of the bullpen getting to Mariano Rivera. They could probably trade Jorge Posada for help their as he is getting old and isn't very good anymore. Getting some more lefty relievers for him would be helpful even if they aren't ready this year.

Youth. They have a bleak farm system b/c like others have said they dump to get older stars from other teams. They would be highly dangerous if they had a deeper farm system. As for help right now another OF wouldn't hurt and neither would another good pitcher.

no one, the more people say the yankees suck, the more it means that the team is fine as is. it's when the hate stops that you know it's time to clean house.
