I didn't think so either. My friend told me they were. I knew the Bering Strait wasn't, but she needed more proof. Why doesn't he ever believe me!?

No. For instance, the Strait of Gibraltar is not man-made... http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=strait%20of%20gibraltar&fr=FP-tab-web-t400&toggle=1&ei=UTF-8&fr2=tab-web

No, a strait can be a naturally occurring geological item. the strait of Gibraltar, Bering, Florida (between Florida and Cuba), etc etc. I don not think the Gulf of Oman is man made either. Usually man makes canals: Suez, Panama, Erie.

Just the opposite, all straits occur naturally. A strait is merely a narrow passage or waterway, and calling such a 'strait' is more a question of maritime traffic than Geography. Most straits are in the oceans (Dover, Dardanelles, Magellan, Juan de Fuca, etc., etc.), but some in fresh-waterways (Mackinaw). Canals are man-made waterways/passages, but commonly have engineered locks to moves ships up & over topographic barriers (Suez, Erie, Panama). If a strait is narrow and shallow, it may require some dredging to keep traffic open.

yes, becuase before man they were just bodies of water, it wasn't until after man started using the nature of language to call them straits that straits appeared on earth, so in turn you could say that man created all straits by calling all of them straits

All straits are formed by nature through geologic and tectonic forces.
