It was a Beta fish I guess and they are pretty tough I came home from a zoo once and found that mine had jumped out of his tank and landed on the floor, dont know how long he was out the tank but he dried up and looked like a dead leaf only for me to pick him up and he was still alive all his fins stuck together took allmost a year for him to look right again. But fish do die for seemingly no reasons at times as my step kids went thru many so just chalk it up to life or just get another one freinds are better than fish.

It probably wasn't neglect, but simply that the friend did not know how to properly care for the animal, and if you brought the fish to your friends house, it may not have took the move very adjustingly

Did you move the fish? Or just have your friend come over? Fish do die easily. It may have been neglect, but it could have also been overfeeding. At least it wasn't a dog or somethig.. Sorry for your loss though...

Don't be afraid. Only take care his pet carefully. If its happen his pet will die, then tell them what really happened. which pet your friend have. I give one site which is only about pet care.

they do have a short life span, 2-3 yrs. it could be that he didn't feed it. but i suppose unless you confront him you wont know.
next time, if you get a new fish...why don't you go to your local pet store and get a drop-in self feeder block. its a block of food that slowly dissolves and flakes off so you don't have to worry about getting anyone else to feed your fish for you.
