Cerebrospinal fluid occupies both the ventricular system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventricular_system) of the brain and the spinal cord(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinal_cord). It has many roles such as shock absorption, nutrition, waste disposal and communication (see reference 1).

Cerebrospinal fluid is fluid located in the space between the skull and the cerebral cortex. The fluid acts as a 'cushion' or buffer for the cortex. It can also be found around your spinal cord. It's main job is to protect your brain, pretty much.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), Liquor cerebrospinalis, is a clear bodily fluid that occupies the subarachnoid space in the brain (the space between the skull and the cerebral cortex—more specifically, between the arachnoid and pia layers of the meninges). It is basically a saline solution and acts as a "cushion" or buffer for the cortex.

It is an approximately isotonic solution and acts as a "cushion" or buffer for the cortex, providing also a basic mechanical and immunological protection to the brain inside the skull. The cerebrospinal fluid has many putative roles including mechanical protection of the brain, distribution of neuroendocrine factors and prevention of brain ischemia. The prevention of brain ischemia is made by decreasing the amount of cerebrospinal fluid in the limited space inside the skull. This decreases total intracranial pressure and facilitates for blood perfusion.

It's the fluid that floats between the brain (or the spine) and the brain-blood barrier, also known as the dura mater. It protects the nervous system from physical shocks and supplies nourishment.

your spinal chord is floating in a sac with your vertebrae and skull. it is filled with cerebrospinal fluid, which helps cushin it and provide nutrients to the all-important spinal chord.

break it down and it will help you figure it out. we know it's some sort of fluid, but what does cerbrospianl mean. the second part, spinal, it just l ike it sounds, the spinal cord. the first part is cerbro, which refers to your cerebellum, which is your brain. therefore it is the fuild surrounding your brain and spinal cord

the brain is protected by a triple layered meninges
outer duramater
middle arachnoid
inner piamater
the space b/w piamater and arachnoid is filled with CSF.
(its secreted bu choroid plexus)]
performs 3 functions:
1.shock absorber
2.nutritive
3.removes metabolic wastes
