the most popular national park is the great smoky mountains in tennessee and north carolina. the grand canyon is the second most popular.

The Great Smoky Mountains is the most visited national park in the US. Statistics say this is because of it's location being near the New England states.
I think either Yellowstone or Yosemite are what you would call the most popular.

Great Smoky Mountain- reason being that it is within a days drive of 50% of the U.S. population. Also it's a big park with lots of roads and drive-in campsites.
