I've gotten a new job and find that I'm not happy at work. I find that the job does not give me the room for me to maximise my potential. Furthermore, I find the job as boring and very routine. I'm not belittling the job per se, but i don't feel satisfied at this job. There are many times when I feel like joining the teaching profession and make a difference in someone else's life.

Should I quit my job and pursue my ambition? Or should I continue with my current job?

I seriously need your advice. Thanks in advance.

Well, my current job isn't a 9-5 job. This doesn't allow me to work and study at the same time. Furthermore, I feel that my qualification is not put to good use.

Many may be wondering why I took up the job when I could have searched for other better jobs. Well, I had no prior working experience and was game to try any job. However, over the time, I started questioning myself and what I really want to do in life.

So guys, I need your two cents.

I have been through the same experience. One thing that I learnt through it that sometime a job is not about survival but about being happy. The way to look at this is like this, the greater the risk the higher the reward. You will never be happy neither successful unless you achieve this on your own terms.

If you want to be in a teaching profession, my advice would be get the requirements, volunteer to teach while studying in order to get the experience and then become a teacher. This way not only will you improve on the current qualifications you have, but in the end you will be your own decision maker. Do what makes you happy, do not let anyone make decision for you coz the experience is yours alone.

to be a teacher, you need specialized skills, such as a teaching certificate and, most of the time, a bachelor's degree.

if you do not have a certificate, enroll in your local community college and begin classes to get the certification. many times these classes are offered at night so you can continue to keep your job ... then once you have the certification, go look for a school to teach at.

if i were you, i would keep the boring job until you have a job teaching somewhere else. yeah, the current job sucks ... but it's better than having no income at all. and you can go to school and work toward your dream while still working the job, which will help make the job better - you'll feel more fulfilled because you're going to be doing something you love.

good luck ...

Well, if you don't change careers into something that will be more satisfying then you will be doomed forever. Think about it, you are not happy where you are right now and you would like to maximize your potential by switching to a career that you feel would make you happy then why even ask anybody? DO IT!Even if quitting your current job makes you fall upon hard times, this is only temporary and the payoff will be 10 fold in terms of your happiness in the end.

Obviously, you've never taught before. I have. Other than the summer vacation, teaching has little going for it. Unruly disruptive kids, poor supervision. Why do you think teachers leave to become principals? Answer is they hate teaching and are incompetent and they're supervising you. Whining parents defending their little darlings who are undisciplined hell raisers. Just try to discipline a student. Try substitute teaching first. In most states you only need about a year of college, then you'll get your eyes opened. Everybody agrees don't quit your day job. You're young. Nearly all jobs suck. When you wise up, you'll know what to look for in a job and not be so unrealistic. Your complaints are all vague and generalized. In other words meaningless, typical of a naive youth. Until you can give some specific objections, all you are doing is whining and you want to be a teacher. You've got a lot to learn yourself.

Definitely find another job before quitting your current job. If there is a way to incorporate providing training as part of your current job, that might make it much more enjoyable.

You try a couple of things to get experience to decide if teaching is what you really want to do. You could try doing some tutoring or volunteering to help out at a school or summer camp.

Well it depends. If the job you are currently at right now is your sole source of income, then you need to stay there and possibly take some courses/classes at night in preparation for your future. If you already have education for teaching, etc, than what are you waiting for? It's not worth spending your life at a job you're miserable at... you need to do something that you enjoy even if it means changing your life around a little bit. You'll be happy you did it.

Well , it depends on if you need the job to survive and if you quit how long would it take you to get another job. If I were you and I wanted to teach, I would consider finding out about school programs and if you are eligible for student loans. I don.t know your financial situation. I would go to the nearest college and talk with a student adviser and find out what my options are. Start your journey now before it is to late. Hey we all have to do what we have to do, to survive. Good Luck in your quest.

I have had many jobs where I feel the same. DON'T Quit. Find yourself a new job first. Or you will be sitting on the unemployment line for a long time. This is not a fun place to be.

Find another job FIRST, then give your two weeks notice like a good employee, that way if something happens, you have the job you are in now as a fall back. Never burn your bridges.

Once you have the better job move on, always try to chalange yourself in life.

Good Luck,
Mandi
