I always found German history to be fascinating. So hard to follow, but youve gotta read up on the Prussian state and the Napoleonic wars..infact, anything to do with the 19th Century :)

I would say China because it is the oldest civilization in the history of the World and Chinese Civilization had more advances even before Western Civilizations created the technology.
