Humans haven't been smoking since the stone age. Tobacco is native to North America, which means it hasn't been smoked by anyone (except native americans) until a few hundred years ago.

Tobacco used to be all natural, and nowadays companies add a crapload of carcinogens and chemicals. Thus equalling the many types of cancer someone can get from long term smoking.

Another contributing factor could be that cigarettes were not smoked as heavily in the past. Instead of 1-2 packs a day, 1-4 cigarettes might be smoked. Moderation was practiced and cigarettes were also sometimes shared like joints are today.

Humans have been catching colds, getting cancer and a lot of other diseases that we haven't evolved from.

People did not live that long until fairly recently.
The average age in 1500 was probably about 30-35 (you can research it). Plus, smoking was not popular in Europe until it was brought back from the New World (The U.S.). As it increased in popularity it helped stimulate the slave trade.

In the stone age (which I'm not sure if they really smoked), they didn't add TAR and CHEMICALS to smokes. They more than likely smoked natural ingredients.

will not make a difference in genetics unless smokers dont get to breed-as it doesnt interfere with reproduction it is not going to cause a change in genetics-if smoking killed most people before being able to reproduce then a genetic shift could occur-good question-old hippie here
