Actually, I run into that alot... with my grandfather. He was in the Air Force during Vietnam. He loves to tellh is war stories. Heck, he loves to tell any stories. Sometimes he tells the same stories over and over and i just want to cry and tell him i've heard this before. But he gets all pissy. Like he'll start telling the story and I'll be like, yeah, i've heard this one it's where... and i'll tell him what it was about, and he'lljust tell the story again. With most people, however, i have no tolerance for boring conversations. Especially if they're about themselves. I've been on the phone for an hour before and never said much more than yeah, uh huh, okay, then what happened? The person usually doesn't even notice i'm not participating int he conversation. I'm normally doing something else anyways, so it doesn't matter. BUt when i can't take it anymore, I say, sorry, I have another call. Then i pretend there's an emergency i need to see to and i hang up, promissing to call in a week or so.

Find a subject they're not interested in, learn all you can about it and bore them to tears instead. Then they might get the hint

Listen patiently while they speak in order to be polite toward them. Stop them abruptly and say, "I really have absolutely no interest in this topic whatsoever." I only have 2 minutes to spend with you; could we talk about ___________ instead?

It is unfair to the person who is sharing their view on the subject to waste their time (and yours). If it happens on occassion, listen. If it happens repeatedly, find a new person to listen to or have a conversation with.

I suppose you are trying to be polite, so listen for a while, and then you must change the subject, talk to someone else (unless you are alone with this person) or make up some excuse to leave. Good luck!

Hi I'm Garry,

Apologize and say look I don't mean to be rude but I have no interest in the subject.. please don't take this the wrong way but it's better than me tuning you out with out you noticing, that would be rude, don't you agree?

I respect you that's why I'm being honest with you..

Please change the subject to something that might interest me and again please don't take me the wrong way, I'd rather be honest with you and I'm sure you feel the same way..

Simply wishing you the best of luck,

Garry

If you want to be polite, wait for a break in the conversation and say "that's really interesting, hey did you here about ....." and casually lead the conversation in a different direction. Or, wait for a break and say "that's really interesting, wow I just remembered that I need to talk to ........, or go do ..........." There is no need to be rude in that kind of situation if you take time to be a little tactful, and no ones feelings are hurt.

try and change the subject to something else that will interest them and you at the same time or take them to a new place where they're less likely to talk about this 'subject' and listen to your interest

I change the subject or tell them I have to go do something (usually the latter). I try to be nice about it, but usually they get the message that I don't want to hear about whatever it is (or if they're really stupid- they think I'm always busy).

either answer with simple yes/no, after a while they will get bored. unless they are really socially inept then you start pulling bored faces like rolling your eyes ect...if you want to be obvious just change the subject completely or leave!
