I was induced by IV twice. They also stripped my membranes and broke my water both times.
The first time, labor was 12 hours.
The second time, it was 7 hours.
Important: If you are going to be induced by IV, you might be in for more pain than if labor started naturally.
Inducing labor by pitocin made for extra strong contractions for me, and I suddenly found myself unable to cope with the pain. Unfortunately, no anesthesiologist was available for hours...
Therefore, I would make sure that the hospital has an anesthesiologist available, before having an IV induction.

I was induced with my son, I went into the hospital the night before they were going to induce me, I was 41 weeks, they put some sort of "tablet" that dissolved hoping to help soften my cervix, then I woke up at 5:00 AM and was loosing my mucous plug, it wasn't enough though so they started me on a pitocin drip, by 7:00 I was in labor and my water broke on its own. I was in labor for a total of 15 hours. I have heard that being induced is more painful than naturally because it brings your contractions on full fledged faster, but I didn't think it was THAT bad, I got an epidural after 4 hours of labor. He still didn't want to come out, finally they said, if he isn't coming through the birth cannal in 15 minutes we are doing a c-section. My son all of a sudden was like, "FINE HERE I COME ALREADY!" and the actual pushing took 20 minutes.

With my second I was 41 weeks and asked if I could be induced. We went to the hospital at 10 at night and at about 11 they started the potcin, my contractions started and the dr broke my water to get it going more. 4 cm I got an epidural. and at 4:44 am my son was born. Right now I'm 36 weeks and the dr already said they might induce me, but I want to go into labor this time without inducing, just so I can see what the difference is. Good luck. Oh, just remember to try to relax as much as possible.

i was induced with both of my girls. I don't know what its like to go into labor naturally. You are set up with a time to be at the hospital, normally around 5-6 am. They hook you up to an IV and start pitocin. (the drug that makes your labor progress) After you have dilated so far they break your water. My first labor went for 10 hrs, the second was 8hrs, start to finish. I was 42 weeks when they decided to induce me. I had gestational diabetes with both the girls so there was a risk of the baby getting to big if they had let me go any further. Everyone has told me the pitocin makes your contractions come harder, stronger and faster. I can't say for sure b/c I haven't experienced birth any other way. If you have any more questions feel free to email me. Good luck and congratulations!

both my kids were induced, my water broke and nothing after that so thay had to induce so that there was no chance of infection within 24 hours.
Induction is usually faster than a 'normal' labour but it comes on fast and is intense pain in the lower back. Get an epi as soon as you can. Mine were both too late for that by the time I asked. First was 4 hours total and second was 1.5 hours
Pitocin is what they usually use and it is given through an IV.
If the baby just won't come out after lots of pushing they will resort to a c secton.
Good Luck and Happy Birthday!

Well with my 1st and 2nd kid i ended up being induced... but with my 3rd i never went into labor i was induced from the start it was actually really nice.... i knew when i was going to the hospital so i had time to get everything ready at home 1st... then when i got to the hospital everything was great it seemed that everything was very controlled and i was very involved, it was really nive i was 39 weeks with my 3rd when i was induced.... it didn't take to long about 6 hours from start to finish.. But that was my 3rd child so my body already knew what was going to happen, so it may be a bit longer for you or maybe not... i liked to be induced cause i had more control over the pain...... GOOD LUCK!!!!!

With my oldest daughter, i was induced with pitocit through an iv. She was 6 days late. She just didn't want to come out. I was in labor with her for 36 hours. With my youngest, she was 5 days late. I was induced with pitocin and cytotec with her. I was in labor for 24 hours with her...My water had to broken both times. I may have delivered sooner if the doctor didnt wait so long to break it. It was about an hour before both deliveries that my water was broken

I got induced when I was 41 weeks. I checked into the hospital on a Friday morning, at around 7pm that evening the doctor came into break my water and still nothing happened. The doc came back at midnight to check my cervix and still nothing. Finally at 5am saturday morning my water broke and I really thought I was going to have this baby once again the doc came in and still nothing. He gave me an antibiotic so that I wouldn't get an infection. Finally at 4:30pm Saturday the doc gave me an option to have a c-section. I took him up on it and at 5:57pm Saturday I had a baby boy. It was a very drawn out process. I wish you luck and everything goes well for you.

The women in my family don't produce the hormone oxytocin, which is needed for labour, so we've all have to be induced. Some have had the drip and some, like me, have had the cream put on the cervix. It was really painful and it took a long time. I was in labour for four days, but that's not normal. My Aunt was in and done within four hours.
Good luck.

With my first-born, my water broke, but I didn't start having contractions or dilating...they finally gave me IV pitocen (not sure if that's the correct spelling)...I dilated VERY quickly (from 3 to 10 in less than 2 hrs.) and my son was born not quite 3 hours after they started the IV. He was actually 3 1/2 weeks early....but was born with no health problems. Congratulations and Good Luck!!!
