I am sure it was provoked somehow. There are many other countries in this world that are potential targets because they are free and democratic just as we are. Why us and not them.
Whether one wants to admit it or not, the US has a big ego and will bully to get what we want. I believe most wars and conflicts are initiated based on big pissing contests. In George Bush's case, from the looks of his small hands, don't think he could win the pissing contest so he provoked a war. Couldn't compete using his brain either because all recognize - he is not an intelligent person.

Provoked is kind of subjective. Osama may have felt provoked and justified in BOTH attacks on the WTC (don't forget about the bombing in 1993 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Trade_Center_bombing
) because of US and Israeli bombings and missle attacks. Before you start, I am not supporting Osama, terrorism, or extremists, just stating facts. Anyway, both WTC attacks, the USS Cole bombing, and a laundry list of other attacks linked to al quaeda or Osam bin Laden or Iraq were retaliation for our involvement in attacks against Muslims. That is a fact. Does that change the results? Not in the least. We were attacked, we have and continue to retaliate and we will not stop until the work is done. You cannot negotiate with terrorists, you cannot honestly expect them to stop, and they cannot allow us to live. We are locked in a life or death struggle from which only one side can survive.

I do not hate Muslims. I do not hate anyone (except the intellectually lazy parrotts that populate this "forum", and I don't hate them they just drive me crazy). But reality is what it is. You can choose to accept it or not. We'll keep defending your freedoms anyway.

It was an act of violence. Terrorists are crazy and anyone that says the attack was provoked is as crazy as they are!
