Why do they seem to attack and try to convince me that I am terribly wrong being a vegetarian? Talking about unhealthy diet, calling me stupid without being able to specify what exactly is stupid about it.. Why the hell don't they just accept it?
I'd like to point out that I don't try to "convert" anyone, I don't bother anyone asking why they eat meat..

Some people get insecure or fearful around others who are not like they are. They attack the one who is different, to help them feel better about themselves and their decisions (which actually probably means they are not secure in their own decision or choice).

Because there are a lot of vegetarians and vegans out there who are completely obnxious and self-righteous about their choice not to eat meat.

It's an unfortunate fact that vegetarianism has become associated with a particular social/political stereotype that has connotations of intolerance, extremism and almost religious zealotry. For some (particularly older people) your admission to being a vegetarian is ALSO an admission to being a pinko, druggie, atheist, homosexual, hippie single mother who wipes her *** on the American flag every morning then heads out to overthrow all that is decent in the world before heading to Starbucks for a soy milk double latte.

It's an unfair stereotype I know (I don't know why you don't eat meat, and truthfully I don't care--it's your choice and more power to you), but it's one that vegetarians cannot entirely dodge the blame for, since groups like PETA and the ALF tend to be the public face of vegetarianism and even vegetarians who don't endorse their agenda will defend them by saying "well, of course we shouldn't behead chicken farmers in the street and firebomb petting zoos, but on the other hand PETA's commitment to animal rights should be commended".

To sum it up--try not to take it personally. If you aren't trying to convert them to vegetarianism, then you should consider that perhaps they are reacting to the methods and attitudes of other vegetarians who aren't quite so easy going.

People should have a mutual respect for each other's eating preferences. I like to eat meat, but I'm not going to tell you that you should.

I've heard that there are some important acids and stuff that meats have, but I think that there are other foods you can eat to replace them.

meat eaters are like christians. they can't accept another's way of life in general people are looking for something to ridicule. i have tried to be strictly vegetarian. it is very hard. don't let people get you down. stand your ground. you are doing the healthy and morally correct thing.

As long as you are happy with your diet, I don't see why it's anybody else's business. As long as you don't try to push your diet on other people, don't worry about it. They just attack you because you're different than they are!!
