If you're wanting to go to Charleston but stay on the beach you're not going to be in Charleston. You want to go to Folley Beach or Isle of Palms, they're both right outside Charleston but you have the beach.

Depends on what you mean by being in "Charleston" - Charleston doesn't have beaches, but there are several areas around there that have gorgeous beaches - Isle of Palms and Folly Beach are closest to Charleston - Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island are also both nice and close -about 35-40 minutes from downtown. There are also some smaller, less known islands in the area like Edisto Island and Pawleys Island, which are also very nice, but farther away - Edisto is toward Hilton Head (about 1.5 hours from Charleston) and Pawleys Island is toward Myrtle Beach (about 1 hour from Charleston). I would check out the website below, which talks about several of the islands and once you know what you want to do while you are there will help determine the best place to stay (beach, golf, historical, shopping, etc). Have fun - it is a beautiful area with lots of great entertainment, dining, history, culture and fun!

There is no beach in Charleston proper. You better rethink your options.

Wild Dunes is on Isle of Palms. Look at
www.islandrealty.com
We rent through them quite often.
Folly Beach is nice too, and it has a surfing area if you're into that.
