motorcycle stunting is doing tricks (stunts) with a motorcycle... now these tricks are supposed to be done on closed courses... and many are... however too many people are doing them in the streets... and i believe it is them that gives the up and coming sport a bad name...
now... if you have been on the highway and seen a guy pass you in a wheelie... or something along the lines... you need to realize its THAT PERSON that did that not the sport...
i am interested in learning some of these tricks... and posted another question in yahoo answer only to get negitive commments... such as... and i quote, you can see for yourself...
"I look forward to seeing your face all flattened out on the 5 oclock news."
so any way... back to my question... why is this sport so looked down upon??? when done properly, its not that dangerous... and any way, its that persons choice... i understand they shouldnt be on public roads... but why not a closed off road? if it not affect you... dont complain...

its a choice that person makes...

too many people are mis-informed about this topic...if your gonna sit there and call me stupid for doing a wheelie on my motorcycle... so be it... its my choice and im not doing it on public roads so im not endangering anyone (but myself)
and i forgot to put 2 words earlier... many stunters view it as a "acceptable risk"... as in... if they go down doing a trick... its worth it to have done that trick and fallen, then to have never tried that trick...and for the one time you fall out of doing it 300 times... i think its worth it...
if anyone cares to debate this topic, feel free to im me... fsfir on aim... fstertercelthnu on yahoo...fstertercelthny@yahoo.com on msn

Because they don't do it on closed courses, most can't afford the fee's so the practice on the open streets.
I used to practice riding wheelies on my dirtbike on a 5 mile open strech of straight road in front of my parents house. I got so used to doing this that I could shift gears, in the air on my XR250 not just one shift but could go from 2nd gear wheelie to 4th and sometimes 5th gear and slow down and shift back to a lower gear.
What's this got to do with your question? Well being a country boy, and no places like this existed in 1985 the road in front of my home is where I practiced for hours on end,if most can't pay the course fee's for unlimited practicing, so I had to do what I did or I wouldn't be able to hop on a dirtbike and pull a 4th gear wheelie at 40 mph and ride it out for over a half mile long or longer.
Crashes happen but at least I had open road to see for miles on a straight away either way.
Would I crack a wheelie in open traffic or in town, nope!
Traffic is uncontrollable and my life is worth more than a cheap thrill or showing off for some hottie.
Picture is very disturbing, do not open if you get sick, weak stomach or heart, or don't like mutilated things.

Life is to Short and as you mature you realize that doing stunts for fun is way to risky.
Of coarse we sacrifice our life every day when we drive in a car, fly in a plane or even walking down a street in some cases. These are things we have to do. However for the purpose of a thrill I think Life is just to valuable for motorcycle stunting, however I don't like bikes so the passion is not there.
But in any case make sure when you are doing this that you are wearing the proper protective attire and of coarse a good helmet.
SAY A Prayer and then make sure when you try a new stunt that you know what you are doing-
Be prepared for accidents and have people with you and a cell phone handy in case you get injured-
Why people look down on this activity is because
Its dangerous and the only thing you get out of it is a thrill.
Houdini was looked down upon and it was only a matter of time before his stunts would catch up to him-
However if your passion is there for what you are doing, well I guess you lived your life to the fullest and then you shouldnt have to worry about what people say:
I am sure Houdini didn't care about what people thought-
So many people look down on it for the simple fact of, WHY RISK YOUR LIFE FOR A THRILL
Ride a roller coaster instead- Your chances of getting hurt are less than 1%

No matter what my personal opinion might be, I will give you an unbiased answer to your question. People "look down" on you for doing things such as "endovers", wheelies and driving at break-neck speeds not because its "illegal" ( thats up to law enforcement to decide on ) but, because it poses an unnecessary risk to other motorists who, in the effort to keep from killing you, swerve or brake and cause some other ( who most likely was speeding also but, not being careless or reckless ) to hurt or kill someone else. I ride and I speed but, I don't ride with the preconception that everyone else will or should get out of my way. Want to do stunts ? Ride like there's no tomorrow ? Take it to the track or open lot, where the only person that can get hurt is the rider.

If you're doing stunts on a public road, I'm all FOR the cops handing you the PHAT ticket...if you're on the highway, it's no longer a matter of whether YOU buy it, that's playing with your life...but a lot of bikers forget that their responsibilities on a public road are very much the same as a person driving a car, and you're not watching traffic and exercising 'due care' if you're on 1 wheel or doing smoky burnouts. If you wanna go fast, and hang it over the edge, grab what you got and give it a good squeeze and go to Laguna Seca. That's a professional race track, located in California. If you think you're 'all that', then go run with the Big Dogs. Or, be a flashy small-town poser, until you wreck out on the back of a service truck because you were speeding in traffic, and end up in a wheel chair or in the cemetery...professional ADULT street riders don't do that garbage, and they try to practice good ridership. Don't give motorcycling/motorcyclists a bad name because you feel like showing your *** to the world...they may end up laughing at your *** when you eat it in the intersection...then, there's the cleanup...

Man, I LOVE these guys - stoppies, wheeleies, riding up or backwards - I just LOVE it.
I'm not gonna do it - too old and slow - so I'll just keep slugging along one one of the bikes I've built.
BUT - I was out at 4 a.m. at Bike Week behind Wnedy's on Atlantic Blvd, and about 15 of these guys were just salmmin' it.
I stood there for an hour watching, thinking - these kids are so cool.
Look, back in the day you were a jerk if you even had a bike - now all the bankers and clerks have 'em - so they figure they themselves are OK, it's just the young punks who ride better than them are the jerks.
Go have fun with it - if it were easy, everybody'd be doing it.
I think it just absolutely rocks, and the wimps who don't like it are jealous and scared.

I didn't know it was looked down upon.
I admire the control and skill that some of these stunts require. But when some idiot bombs by at 130 on one wheel, I do not think my reaction is so much "admiration" as it is "homicidal rage".
On a closed course, fine. But too often, these guys bring their enthusiasm onto the public Right of Way, where their booboos can ruin someone else's whole afternoon.
So, I applaud, gasp, ooo and aahhh when I see these guys performing in a parking lot or at a track. But when they are on the road that my KIDS drive on, they earn nothing but my undying ire.

Doing stunts on a motorcycle is extremely dangerous. No matter how much safety equipment you have on, you can still get killed because you have no protection against hitting an obstacle or the ground at high speeds.

I didn't know it was looked down on.
And for you to say it is not dangerous is just ignorant!
And for some moron putting other people in jeopardy doing these things on public roads is just unacceptable!
Sounds to me like you may be one of the morons who is doing the wrong things.
